Finding Gratitude in Love

Happy late new year!

2017 was a magical year for me, so I’m really excited for what 2018 has in store. For me, just like it is for most people, the new year is a wonderful time to reevaluate and recommit to important goals in my life. One of my new year’s resolutions is to feel more gratitude. I hope to seek gratitude in the little things, the big things, and everything else in between.

Today, I am especially grateful for true love. Love is one of the most powerful forces that we are able to experience in our lives. Exactly a year ago today, Benj asked me to marry him. Saying yes to his proposal has been the best decision I have ever made. My life has been so blessed and complete from sharing love with Benj.

Benj first came into my life during a difficult time. My dad passed away in late 2015 from a heart attack. So, I was grieving and trying to understand my life’s purpose and wasn’t really looking for love, to be honest. But God works in mysterious ways. I met Benj just two months after my dad passed away. God’s timing is always perfect. Benj was like a ray of light. He constantly reminded me of God’s love for me and the great plan of happiness. Benj was also a wonderful friend. At first, we both had our doubts of the veracity of what everybody else called “true love.” But I quickly realized that true love is real, and that we felt it for each other. As our love began to blossom, I felt the affinity we had for each other at first sight grow into an unconditional and unwaveringly strong love.

While our love was not exactly how fairy tales describe it—we had our share of quarrels—our love was true, real, and undeniably immense. From this love, I realized that despite our flaws, we found the beauty that comes from loving and encouraging each other to be our best selves. After all, that is true love. Love has taken us from Utah to Arizona—where we are chasing our dreams and figuring out life together. I’m not entirely sure where life is going to take us in the future. What I do know though, is wherever life takes us, love will be there also.

Here are some throwbacks to our proposal. 🙂 Benj proposed to me at the Salt Lake Temple on January 14, 2017,

Our engagement photos. We took these pictures in the International Peace Gardens in Salt Lake City, it’s definitely a cool park worth checking out if you are in the area.
